I have begun studying full time toward a
Bachelor of Science Degree Majoring in Biomedical Science, alongside Organic Chemistry, Molecular Biology and Microbiology.
A subject matter, I have long been passionate about and one which will deepen the scientific foundation of the work I offer.
Born from an innate curiosity, this represents a necessary and deliberate step in advancing my capacity to engage with scientific research, laboratory-based learning, and evidence-driven inquiry.
Science emphasises the importance of examining evidence and biases to understand complex topics, especially in studying living organisms.
With over 24+ years as a Facialist, I view skin as more than a sensory organ but as a active interface, linked to our nervous and immune systems.
I have continually explored connections between facial structure, the nervous system, immune responses, and skin health, focusing on how stress and cortisol levels affect inflammation, a common factor in conditions like:
Eczema: Chronic inflammation causing itchy, red skin.
Dermatitis: General skin inflammation leading to rashes.
Rosacea: Causes facial redness and visible blood vessels.
Menopausal skin changes: Hormonal shifts lead to thinning reactivity and dryness.
Studio Reopening | 28th March
My beloved community,
As some of you may know, I was recently involved in a serious car accident and have been recovering from a significant neck injury.
This has been a very challenging period, and I want to sincerely thank you for your patience, kindness, and understanding while I took the time my body needed to heal.
Due to the injury, I had to temporarily pause operations and hibernate. This time away allowed me to reflect carefully on the future of my work and how I can continue to support your skin and wellbeing in a way that is both meaningful and sustainable.
During this period I have made a few important decisions.
Firstly, I have closed my diary to new guests. Moving forward, new appointments will only be accepted by explicit referral and with careful consideration. This allows me to maintain the level of attention and continuity of care that sits at the heart of ‘my why’
Secondly, I have temporarily relocated my practice to my home studio in Ellerslie, while I enter a new chapter of study.
Over the last 4 years, this exploration has resulted in collimating SkinSync®, also known as NeuroGlow.
Using clinical research-based and practical methods, we look into how intentional touch affect stress and inflammation in the body through pathways related to skin touch receptors and chemical signals in the nervous system.
Although this work has practical applications I have been utilising in my offering, my core focus is to understand how this works at the cellular, neural, hormone, and immune system levels in real time.
How can we use intentional touch to influence the body's inflammation and stress responses by focusing on specific touch receptors in the skin?
Through SkinSync® research, I've become particularly interested in how touch can affect the body's stress systems, like the hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal (HPA) axis, the balance of the nervous system, and inflammation, which play a role in conditions like dermatitis, eczema, and stress-exacerbated skin dysfunction like premature ageing.
This has led me to research and engage extensively with emerging literature in neuroimmunology, psychodermatology, and inflammatory biology, reinforcing the need for formal biomedical training to critically evaluate, contextualise, and contribute in my field.
A Bachelor of Biomedical Science represents a necessary evolution in paralell to my practice, I am particularly motivated by the study of neuroimmune interactions, inflammatory pathways, and the role of sensory systems in stress regulation.
I am so grateful for this next chapter, not only my career development but also the personal growth that will guide me towards my PHD.
